    Rusted bumper,tire carrier,rock sliders options

Im sure alot of others can relate to this, I as well have gathered alot of rust on bumpers, tire carrier, rock sliders, etc.
Im getting old and lazy and tired of stripping these down and repainting each summer.
Wondering what others have done? Are there any more permanent options?

    Im contemplating these options:
    -take to powder coater
    OR
    -take to linex
    OR
-remove and sell and buy new ones(might not cost much more than the above options?! but who knows how long the new ones will last). Any brands that have better coatings that dont or prevent rust?

    Thanks*

IMHO, there isn’t much that can be done. Just a symptom of the Canadian environment. Every brand of any aftermarket bumper or equipment I’ve ever seen has rust or paint degradation after a few years, at best.
I have a 1999 Ranger consisting of mostly Ford parts ranging from 1979 to 2005.

What brand kit are you talking about? I know that there are certain brands that are more susceptible than others. I have a buddy that works in the auto body industry I can ask him for a solution, if there is any.

If your dong some spot rust repair or a small area like the gas can holder try this. [url]https://www.por15.com/stop-rust-kit[\url] its a good starter kit and covers rust really well.

Even if you take to a sand blaster and get it powder coated with a zinc rich primer and textured top coat it will still rust in a year or two. The issue isn’t really the poor coating it the poor quality low nickel steel that was used to make the parts.

I have had success using POR15 rust paint. Might want to look at their web site.

At my work we build and sell wheelchair lifts that go outside and the powder coat we use lasts for decades. In ‘wet’ areas that are prone to flooding we use an extra clear coat on top, unless you get a bad batch of powder or an inexperienced operator, rusting is rarely the result of the powder coat finish. It’s all about the surface prep. But once rust has set in you need to remove it all or the steel will rust again fairly soon.

The rear bumper and tyre carrier on my jeep are holding up well there made by Garvin. The front bumper is made by Smittybuilt and the finish on it starting chipping on the first run I just hit it with some rattle can black every now and again.
