Thread: CJ7 Re-build V2

  1. #121
Had to emergency brake the other day and that was the end of the master cylinder. Brake Booster was already starting to leak.
Felt like I was standing on a brick and had to pull up on the steering wheel to get enough leverage to stop.
Anyway, found a deal on Kijiji for a complete setup new in box.
Had it installed by my mechanic as I don't like messing with brakes to begin with.
    WOW. I have brakes now!
The face print on my windshield is a good indicator I never really had good brakes before.
    Very happy!

    Blew the header gasket!
Took a piece to the manifold as well.
Rig sounds like a big lawn mower.
    Brakes got stiff again.
    Time for new gaskets.
Managed a roadside removal and verified the issue wasn't a hole or crack in the headers.
Pulled the carb off the manifold (500km on the carb rebuild).

Bolts were too short and the washers aren't going to do the job. Searching for something better.
They were only catching a few threads...

Headers are off to ceramic coat.
    Manifold is getting powder coat.
    Picked new fittings.
Now I wait for two weeks.....
Photo is a different header but that's the color I'm going.

    Black is boring.

Right?! This one's had three new leases on life.

Very shiny new brake booster and master cylinder. I have had good luck with ARP fasteners.

Dan. Where did you send your parts for coating? I want to get my new manifold coated as well as my headers.

Impact Coatings NW end. Only ones I could find that do ceramic. Two mechanic friends both recommend the place. Plus they are very busy. Pretty relaxed too. They seemed to want to be sure I would be happy with the finished product. Spent a lot of time explaining pros and cons of different options and what results to expect realistically.
